Abstract

This study is made on a geopolymer binding paste synthesized using ultra fine natural steatite powder (UFNSP) and bio medical waste incinerated bottom ash (BMBA). The samples were prepared with various mix proportions mixed with alkaline solution. The alkaline solution was prepared using 12 molar concentrations of sodium hydroxide solution and sodium silicate mixed at the ratio of 1:1. The samples were heat cured at 60 oC for a period of 48 hours before testing. The results show that the domination of bio medical waste incinerated bottom ash in geopolymer affect the structural integrity due to the abundance of calcium carbonate. If this geopolymer is prepared with UFNSP, then denser and stabilized microstructure was observed. Also, strength was achieved when BMBA and UFNSP are proportioned equally. The presence of quartz, brucite and calcium carbonate was also observed and this supports the formation of amorphous geopolymer products.
