Hastarini Dwi Atmanti, Rossanto Dwi Handoyo and Muryani

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the efficiency of waste management in Indonesia with case studies in Central Java Province. Stochastic Frontier Analysis is used as a management analysis technique in 33 urban districts in Central Java Province. The result of the analysis shows that the average efficiency achievement of Central Java Province is 0.54%. There are 18 cities/districs whose average efficiency is below the efficiency of the province. Although high literacy rate, waste management is inefficient, because public awareness is still lacking. Residents only clean up their living quarters, but not in the wider environment. Moreover, based on the dummy area, the district level of inefficiency is higher than in the city. Facilities and institutions that cover urban area regulation and readiness are better than districts.
