Abstract

The performance of a anaerobic treatment reactor may depend on the flow system in both batch and continuous reactors. The ability of a medium to remove the pollutants and its clogging time will have an effect on operational engineering when it is operated on a large scale. The maximum capability of coconut shell charcoal in batch reactor for COD degradation was 2000 mg/L and TAN 100 mg/L. While the maximum performance of it on continuous reactor; COD 1300 mg/L and TAN 40 mg/L. Saturation time prediction is done by modeling COD and TAN removal patterns using linear and non -linear regression. Non-linear cubic regression models are more capable of approaching COD and TAN removal patterns in batch and continuous systems. Based on R2 and modeling results, prediction of clogging time for CSAC according to TAN breakthrough curve more appropriate than COD breakthrough curve.
