ASSESSMENT OF PHYSICO-CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PULP AND PAPER INDUSTRY EFFLUENTSMAITREYIE NARAYAN, PRAVEEN SOLANKI AND R.K. SRIVASTAVAAbstract The wood pulping process and the production of paper products generate wastewater with a variety of toxic pollutants in high concentrations. Pulp and paper industry wastewater contains complex organic and inorganic pollutants depending on the type of pulping process. This paper provides an overview of physico-chemical properties of pulp and paper mill effluent at different seasons. In the present study effluents from the nearby paper industry collected and analyzed for various physico-chemical parameters like pH, TDS, TSS, TS,TN, Na, K, BOD, COD, Chloride etc. The inferences were drawn on the basis of analysis. The effluent contains pH of 7.6-8.2, Suspended Solids of 163-335ppm, Total Dissolved Solids ranges from 943-1251ppm, BOD and COD varies 609.1-714 mg/L and 1855.2-2123.7 mg/L respectively.
