Abstract

This study was conducted to compare the pattern of micro plastic distribution in the water column in Semarang Coastal Waters that was sourced from the West Banjirkanal and the East Banjirkanal river which were linked to the current pattern. Seawater samples were taken from 13 stations that were determined by purposive method with physical, chemical and oceanographic parameters. In the laboratory, seawater samples were analyzed for knowing micro plastic content. The results showed that the highest and lowest micro plastic content were founded in the waters of the West Banjirkanal river at a depth of 0.2D. The micro plastic content was concentrated more in the water column at depth of 0.2D, in the waters of the West Banjirkanal river (station 2, 4, followed by station 6). In the waters of the East Banjirkanal river, the highest micro plastic content is in station 10. Current is an important thing to transport micro plastics from both areas. In this case, the current moved from East to West in the waters of East Banjirkanal river and from the Northeast to the Southwest in the waters of West Banjirkanal river.
