SANKARAbstract Jasminum grandiflorum Linn (Chameli/Yasmin; Oleaceae) is native to Tropical and warm Temperate regions and cultivated in France, Italy, China, Japan, India, Morocco and Egypt. The plant is documented to possess many beneficial effects. Pharmacological activities of the plant reported so far are spasmolytic, anti-inflammatory, cytoprotective, chemoprotective, wound healing and anti-acne activity. Pharmacological properties exhbited by the plant were antimicrobial activity, antioxidant activity, antilarval activity and antihelminthic activity with methanolic extract superior than other extracts. This study suggests that the methanolic extract of Jasminum grandiflorum can be used as therapeutic agents to treat against various diseases caused by free radicals and other chemical agents.
