SOLID WASTES COMPOSITIONS IN SAUDI ARABIA (TABUK CITY)

ABDERRAHIM LAKHOUIT

Abstract

Human activities are the source of the wastes. Theses wastes were buried in Landfills. The landfills are potentials source of air pollution. Municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills are sources of biogas. This biogas is known by landfill biogas (LFG). The LFG is generated by bacterial activity under anaerobic conditions. The LFG contains methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and sulphur compounds. LFG content is usually from 45% to 55% for methane, from 30% to 40% for carbon dioxide, from 5% to 15% for nitrogen and ˆ 1% for both VOCs and odorant compounds. At least, more than one hundred of VOCs and odorant compounds were identified in LFG. In the present study, the solid wastes generated by Tabuk (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) community was estimated and classified.
