REMOVAL OF HIGH FLUORIDE CONTENT FROM WATER USINGLOW COST FILTER MEDIAABHISHEK SAXENA, POOJA GOEL AND ANJU PATELAbstract In the last few decades many groundwater quality issues had been reported across the world. The problem of high fluoride content in the groundwater used for drinking purposes is one of the most alarming issues in many parts of our country. Many defluoridation techniques had been developed for the effective removal of the fluoride content from the water. However, most of these techniques are not cost effective and requires lot of technical skills. Thus, the attempts were made through this study to develop and test some cost-effective filter media for the successful removal of high fluoride content from the water. The experiments had been carried out to check the fluoride removal capacity of these low-cost filter media and for their durability to use. During theexperiments, it was found that these filter media have efficiency of removing more than 50% of fluoride content from the water. The water samples having fluoride content as high as 5 ppm were reduced to 2.1 ppm.
