COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF MEOR AND CEOR IN THE SANDSTONE RESERVOIR

A. SIVASAKTHI AND T. NAGALAKSHMI

Abstract

The main purpose of the study is to observe the efficiency of Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) and Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (CEOR) in the sandstone reservoir. MEOR uses the inexpensive raw materials to produce a biodegradable product for the tertiary oil recovery, whereas the CEOR utilizes the synthetic chemicals of high toxicity and expensive for the recovery of oil. MEOR is performed with the help of biosurfactant produced from a cheap raw material and a biosafe host bacterium, while the CEOR is practised with the non-ionic surfactants in the sandstone reservoir. The efficiency of MEOR and CEOR are monitored in the sand pack column analysis with two different mesh particle sizes. MEOR is highly effective in the sandstone reservoir compared with the CEOR.
