PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF DIESEL ENGINE USING CORN OIL BIODIESEL AND PREHEATING OF INLET AIR: THE TAGUCHI APPROACH

V. Gopinath and P. Shanmughasundaram

Abstract

The objective of this work is to analysis the performance of engine using corn oil biodiesel and to reuse the exhaust waste heat energy and to determine the optimum performance parameters of the engine by using Taguchi method. A single cylinder direct injection diesel engine fulled with corn oil ethyl ester blended with diesel was used as fuels. In this experiment, the performance of the engine is analyzed with three parameters such as brake power, inlet air temperature and fuel. An external heat exchanger was used to preheat the inlet air by using waste heat energy from the exhaust gas. The optimization of engine parameters is analyzed in Minitab software, the signal to noise ratio (SNR) could be predicted the optimum value of the response, in order to achieve the maximum performance of compression ignition engine.
