Midia Naleyni and Seyed Mehdi Safavi

Abstract

Selection of genotypes based on high value of heritability and forecasted genetic conditions would be an effective method for improvement of oat genotypes. The present investigation was carried out to (i) study of some agro-morphologic traits and (ii) to estimate genetic variability parameters for the studied traits in 18 genotypes of oat. Analysis of variance showed that genotypes significantly differed for 14 studied traits. Genotypic and phenotypic coefficients of variations were high for Straw Yield (SY), Harvest Index (HI) and Number of Kernel per Spike (NKPS). Heritability estimates were Days to Flowering (DTF), Days to Physiological Maturity (DTPM) and Kernel Filling Period (KFP). High genetic gain was observed for NKPS,SY and HI. Correlation analysis showed Kernel Yield (KY) was significantly correlated with a trait HI.Cluster analysis grouped the 18 genotypes within 4 clusters, each of which having 5,2, 6 and 5 genotypes.
