DESIGN AN INTEGRATED SYSTEM FOR IMPROVING NATURAL VENTILATION IN RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FOR THE ARID AREAHamid Abaeian, Elnaz Khandan Nebei and Sheida SaeediAbstract Natural ventilation is an effective feature for providing comfort in internal spaces of buildings situated in hot and dry climates (hot arid). Also, considering the devastating effects of fossil fuels, reducing the energy consumption of residential complexes is now a necessity. T ermite mound is a living structure that can maintain its temperature without energy consumption. To reduce the energy consumption in residential complexes in Isfahan, this study examines the features of termite mound frombiological and energy perspectives and then takes inspiration from these moundsto design a model for meeting the climatic and operational needs of residential complexes in hot and dry climates. This goal is pursued by the use of thermodynamics, biology, and design concepts in relation totermite mound and natural ventilation. The results indicate that the designed model can provide desirable ventilation in summer and winter by using available natural resources instead of fossil fuels.
