TRANSMEMBRANE DIFFUSIVITY AND PERMEABILITY MECHANISMS THROUGH MEMBRANE TUBESK. Sathiya and S. KeerthinarayanaAbstract This paper attempts to appropriately assess the essential process parameters required for the design and operations of the extractive type membrane bioreactor (EMBR) in effectively treating chloropyrifos (CPF) residues in the hostile aqueous phase or environment, such as groundwater/wastewater/surface water. In view of appropriately selecting an efficient membrane tube, two typical highly quality membrane tubes, such as indigenous or hospital grade membrane (HGM) and food grade or foreign grade membrane (FGM) where used. The permeability and diffusivity values were evaluated by using the two Ficks laws and, the respective values were expected to vary between 1.29 x 10-11 and 5.6 x 10-11 m/s; and 0.65 x 109 and 2.8 x 109 m2/s. Moreover, a maximum deviation of about 20% was found between the effective diffusivities based on the two Ficks laws of diffusivities. A high separation factor of about and greater than 70% was found for lindane-CPF system.
