STUDY OF SOCIAL-ECOLOGY SYSTEM IN MANAGEMENT OF WANA WISATA PADUSAN

Abstract

Indonesian natural scenery has the global potential to be proud of. Beautiful nature and its human resources has become the major attraction for tourist to visit its tourist destinations. Wana Wisata Padusan (WWP) is one of major tourist destination of Kabupaten Mojokerto, East Java which environmental oriented by its natural conservation and people empowerment. Management of WWP was expected to ensure welfare of the locals and to sustain natural resource utilization for current and future time. Objectives of this study were to review the change in social system and socio-ecological impact perceived by people in Padusan village as the result of ecotourism (wana wisata). Data analysis was done using mixed method or combination between qualitative and quantitative method to obtain comprehensive analysis. Result showed that changes in social system occur in lifestyle, occupation, societal system, knowledge system, art, language and religion. Socio-ecological impact was seen from people’s engagement in cultivation activities and natural resources conservation as in river mitigation and reforestation activities also in maintain forest security from theft and fire. This indicator proved that Wana Wisata Padusan gave positive impact from social, economy, cultural and environmental facets, and more importantly was to increase people awareness of the importance in maintain natural conservation for sustainable life. However, potential of local conflict was inevitable and more thinking efforts would be needed to address it.
