CLIMATE CHANGE AND CRUNCH OF WOMEN FARMERS ON SMALL ISLANDS

Abstract

Climate change with all its effects has been felt by most people in Indonesia such as floods, droughts, earthquakes, disease outbreaks and so forth. Women are the hardest to feel; Sources of life such as access to clean water, a cleaner and healthier environment are diminishing, putting him in a critical situation where he is responsible for providing household food. The study aims to analyze (1) the extent to which climate change impacts on agricultural production and women’s workload (2) how women react to it. The research was conducted in Southwest Maluku District, especially for people living in small islands such as Kisar and Babar using qualitative descriptive analysis method. The results of the study show that (1) climate change has an impact on decreasing agricultural production and increasing the workload of women, (2) adaptation strategy supported by local wisdom is the working capital of women to respond to climate change so that he can act as a renewal agent.
