LONG TERM RAINFALL ANALYSIS AND CLIMATIC WATER BALANCE FOR PUDUKKOTTAI, A SEMI-ARID REGION OF TAMIL NADU, INDIAM.S. Senthil, G. Venkatesan, U. Surendran and V. KumarAbstract Understanding rainfall variability is essential to optimally deal with the scarce water resources. This study was conducted with the objective to analyze rainfall variability using different statistical methods and trend during the last 102 years for Pudukkottai district. The average annual rainfall of Pudukkottai is 862 mm with the standard deviation of 147.3 mm. The Coefficient variation of annual rainfall showed that inter annual variability is very low, however seasonal variability is higher. Man-Kendall rank statistics analysis revealed increase in southwest and northeast monsoons rainfall while decrease in rainfall during winter and summer season.
