Abstract

An experiment was carried out to find out the best holding solution for chincherinchee during the year 2012-2013 at the Experimental Farm and Laboratory of Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, Dr. Y. S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, India.. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with 17 treatments and replicated thrice. Various parameters viz., days taken for opening of first floret, per cent of unopened florets, floret size, vase life, amount of holding solutions consumed, weight change and appearance of cut bloom (freshness and colour) were studied. It was observed that solution comprising of 4 % Sucrose + 400 ppm 8- Hydroxy quinoline citrate (8-HQC) + 25 ppm Benzyl adenine (BA) resulted outstanding improved for most of the postharvest life parameters such as vase life (20.80 days), amount of holding solution consumed (45.07 mL) and appearance.
