BREEDING OF YIELD COMPONENT CHARACTERS OF SUNFLOWER (HELIANTHUS ANNUUS L.) VIA LINE×TESTER ANALYSIS

Seyed Abbasali Andarkhor and Mohsen Bagheri

Abstract

Combining ability of yield and yield components of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) inbred lines were accessed using line x tester analysis. The results of analysis of showed hat significant differences among the treatments for all the traits including seed length, seed width, seed yield, oil percentage and kernel percentage. Line x tester analysis exhibited significant effects of genotypes for all the traits but parents had significant differences for all the traits except seed yield. T4 and L2 with significant positive general combining ability (GCA) effects for seed yield and seed width were considered as good combiners for improving these traits. Most of the lines and testers with significant positive GCA effects for seed yield had significant positive GCA effect of seed width. T5*L3 and T6*L6 had significant positive specific combining ability (SCA) effects for seed kernel and seed yield.
