EFFECT OF ACUTE DOSE OF CYPERMETHRIN ON HEMATOLOGY AND MICRONUCLEI OF NILE TILAPIA (OREOCHROMIS NILOTICUS L.)Amin Setyo Leksono, Shinta Hiflina Yuniari and Asus Maizar Suryanto HertikaAbstract The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of acute dose of cypermethrin on hematology and micronuclei of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.). Nile tilapia was exposed to seven concentration ranges from 0.0135 ppm to 0.087 ppm of cypermethrin for 4 days based on LC50 - 96 hours test. The fishes were allowed recuperation period of 7 days in pesticide-free water prior to tests. Tests on Nile tilapia were performed after treatments which include number of erythrocytes, leukocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit and micronuclei. Results showed that number of hematology and micronuclei of Nile tilapia was declined with increase in the concentration of pesticide, while in the opposite the number of leukocytes and micronuclei increased. These results revealed that the leukocytes and micronuclei can work as good indicators of stress of a toxicant on fish.
