Abstract

Pyrolysis of mixed plastic waste was carried out by developing laboratory scale stainless steelreactor by using one kilograms of mixed plastic waste such as High density polyethylene, Lowdensity polyethylene and Poly propylene (HDPE, LDPE and PP). The physical properties such as Density, Melt flow index, Melting point for mixed waste plastics was also studied. The comparisonof pyrolysis fuel with commercial fuel was manipulated. The maximum temperature in a reactorwas kept about 350-500 0C. Reaction was carried out with and without using natural zeolite (NZ) asa catalyst. It was found that, time required for completion of the pyrolysis process was 90 minuteswithout catalyst and 65 minutes with natural zeolite. Results showed that in absence of catalyst, process gives about 54.50% of liquid fuel and in presence of 10 % natural zeolite, about 59.97 %yield is obtained. It was observed that by using natural zeolite, oil percent can be enhanced and onecan obtain high calorific value fuel than that of oil without catalyst. Scaling up of the presentmethod would substantially reduce the environmental pollution and degradation and would alsohelp in the pursuit of exploring economically viable recycling system for plastic waste. Hencewaste-to-energy technology was applied to extract the expected outcome from disposed wasteplastics.
