IMPACT OF GEOTECHNICAL PROPERTIES DUE TO INDUSTRIALAND HYDROCARBON CONTAMINATED SOILSOHAIL AYUB, ASIF ALI SIDDIQUE AND HADEEL MAJID HUSSEINAbstract The soil contamination by industrial effluents and hydrocarbons contaminant has affectedadversely both soil health and crop productivity. Such actions have an impact on the engineeringproperties of soils, such as the shear strength and the volume change (compressibility andswelling), and the chemical properties (adsorption and retention of heavy metals), which calls for better understanding of the behavior of such soils, so that they could be used for constructionactivities. This paper reviews works published about both industrials and hydrocarbons soilcontamination and their effect on geotechnical properties of the soil. Similarly the methods ofpreparing the contaminant soil samples are also presented.
