SAVITA BELWAL, N. RAMA, M. SHIREESHA AND RAMO YERUKALA

Abstract

Charcoal treated polluted water is compared based on statistical T- test and the magnitude of the difference among the samples is explicated. The conventional methods for treating waste water are expensive. Consequently, the search for persistently but effective, efficient and economic methods has been on the increase in recent times. In this research waste-water samples were collected from six lakes of Hyderabad using composite sampling method. The waste water samples were characterized physico-chemically before and after treatment using activated carbon as adsorbent according to standard procedure. The results obtained from the various pollution indicators show an appreciable improvement to the quality of the water. The pH value changed hugely, the color changed from grayish-white to colorless while the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) was reduced greatly and chemical oxygen demand (COD) was reduced enormously for all the lake waters.
