FROM PILGRIMAGE TO EDUCATION TOURISM (THE DESIGN APPROACH FOR CONSERVATION THE ISLAMIC LEADER SITES IN MAJASTO VILLAGE – SUKOHARJO - CENTRAL JAVA)

Abstract

The number of tourism in Majasto village has not increased although the tourism and regional planning policy in Sukoharjo District has decided the Majasto village as a pilgrimage tourism area. Based on these conditions, the aim of the research is to know the role of the Majasto grave for pilgrims and what components can be added in the sites to be the education tourism area so that is becomes interesting for the younger. Descriptive methods are used in this research. After analyzed the findings are: the first, the grave is the important place to worship by the Javanese Islamic community, especially for ngalab berkah (blessing), tawasul (intermediaries to accelerated the pray), ngluwurke leluhur (tribute the ancestors) and communicate with the harwah (departed spirit); and the last by adding the educative signage as the landscape element design to enrich information for the pilgrims, especially for the younger tourists.
