EFFECT OF SINGLE PASS ON WEAR BEHAVIOUR ON FRICTION STIR PROCESSED AZ91D MAGNESIUM ALLOY FOR ENVIRONMENTALLY CLEAN PROCESSJayaraman R., T. Balusamy and S. RaviAbstract Magnesium alloys have a unique combination, necessary properties, which make them an exceptional choice for automobile and aerospace industries as it reduces greenhouse gas and carbon dioxide emission. Magnesium alloy is combined with aluminum and its surface is modified using Friction Stir Processing (FSP). To improve the effects of mechanical properties and metallurgical properties, intended for cast AZ91D alloy of FSP is done and studied. Mechanical properties such as macro, micro hardness of friction stir processed AZ91D magnesium alloy were evaluated using substandard specimens by following standard procedures. Dry sliding wear resistance of friction stir processed AZ91D magnesium alloy were evaluated using pin-on-disc wear and friction monitor. Metallurgical properties of wear surface of various tilting angle friction stir processed AZ91D magnesium alloy were evaluated using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). The results are detailed and proposedfurther develop in smoke free process to reduce environmental impacts.
