MONITORING OF GROUND WATER QUALITY FOR DOMESTIC AND IRRIGATION PURPOSE IN NILLAKOTTAI BLOCK, DINDIGUL DISTRICT, TAMILNADU, INDIA

Abstract

Dindigul is a one of the well developing district in Tamilnadu. It contains large number of industries and waste is disposed into the water bodies and surface of the land area. Quality of the groundwater is very needful factor for human being and other living organisms in the world. Quality of soil and human activities are the main factor to pollute or change the quality of groundwater. The present study is aimed at assessing the quality of groundwater in Nillakottai block. The basic chemical parameters were analyzed such as pH, Electrical Conductivity, Total dissolved solids, Chloride, Total Alkalinity, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Total Hardness, Potassium, Sulphate and Fluoride of groundwater was carried out from 21 sample stations in study area. The Classification and analysis of the ground water quality based on Water Quality Index. WQI shows the combined concentration of different water quality parameters and describe the quality of water and their nature to the legislative decision makers.
