Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the interaction between the plants, which will be compositioned in the Constructed wetland (CW) as a waste water treatment garden, using phytoremediation system. The design is based on the shape, texture and the capability of removing pollutants. This research used Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) Nash, Cyperus haspan L. and Nelumbo nucivera gaertn (Lotus). That composition necessitates knowledge about the interaction between the plants. The experiments were conducted by making some extracts solution with different concentrations 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10%. Every extract of the plants was tested againsteach other. The results were compared with the normal plants growth. The results were statistically analyzed by 0.05 precision. The result shows that allelophatic test for Lotus to Cyperus shows negative results. The higher concentration of Lotus extract will prevent the growth of Cyperus’ buds. All of the results showed that Vetiver can be combined in the planting together with Lotus and Cyperus. Based on the aesthetic consideration and composition, whenever the Cyperus must be planted beside Lotus, they would need a barrier.
