Abstract

Selection of genotypes based on high value of heritability and forecasted genetic conditions would be an effective method for improvement of sunflower lines. The present investigation was carried out to (i) study of some agro-morphologic traits and (ii) to estimate genetic variability parameters for the studied traits in 16 Genotypes of sunflower. Analysis of variance showed that genotypes significantly differed for 14 studied traits. Genotypic and phenotypic coefficients of variations were high for Head Diameter (HD), Seed yield (SY) and Oil yield (OY). Heritability estimates were Days to physiological Maturity (DM), Days to Finish of Flowering (DFF) and HD. High genetic gain was observed for HD, SY and Leaf Number (LN). Correlation analysis showed HD was significantly correlated with a trait Oil. High heritability estimates associated with high genetic advance as percent mean (GG) were obtained in characters i.e., SY and OY. Cluster analysis of genotypes based on under study traits, with cutting dendrogram from 5 distances, located them in five groups, each of which having 5, 3, 3, 2 and 2 genotypes respectively.
