Abstract

The conservation of harvested grain, avoiding loss and deterioration, is an important national task, related to proper procurement of bread to the citizens, forage to the animals, and raw materials to the industry. The aerosol nanotechnology of storage buildings protection against the grain storage pests with controlled atmosphere, based on molecular iodine and potassium iodide, relies on the multi-purpose generator of controlled atmosphere, developed by the members of the program. We performed the research and development of different compositions of the artificial atmosphere for grain storage pests and microbial populations control in the south-western part of Kazakhstan. The aim of the study was to assess the efficiency of the controlled atmosphere, based on molecular iodine and potassium iodide, allowing to disperse the microscopic doses of the active agent over the large storage space, against the storage pests affecting grain and derived products. We conducted laboratory trials of the selected agents, potassium iodide and molecular iodine, assessing the effects of the treatment at the artificial and natural rates of pest contamination. We evaluated the efficiency of the controlled atmosphere, based on potassium iodide and molecular iodine, for pest control, depending on the pest species.
