Abstract

The article presents the results of the research of physical and chemical methods of dust prevention, which may be applied in open-pit mining in order to prevent the development of minersÂ’ lung diseases and reduce the dust load on the respiratory system. The paper contains an analysis of different kinds of surfactants used to minimize dust formation, and to ensure the subsequent dust coagulation in dust aerosol. It was found that dust formation at open-pit coal mines mainly depends on the degree of coal metamorphism. It was also found that coals with a higher degree of metamorphism produce more fine dust. The data obtained during the measurement of dust level in the working area of open-pit mines showed that without using the means of dust suppression, dust concentration in some places can reach values exceeding the maximum permissible norms. Therefore, in the process of designing and applying already known tools and methods, it is necessary to focus on the study of new methods of dust control, especially in the areas of the greatest impact of the man-induced air load on the atmosphere of the working area of the open-pit mine.
