Dayanand Sharma, Dilip M. Ghaitidak and Kunwar D. Yadav,

Abstract

Present article focuses on the state of the art review of the composting methods and co-composting of organic substrates. With increasing industrialization and urbanization, solid waste management has become a major challenge in India. Traditionally, composting has been considered one of the popular options for disposal of solid waste with valuable-nutrient compost as a final product as compared with other methods of solid-waste disposal. The mixing of organic substrates with inoculums/additive is called co-composting Different composting methods have a limitation with nature of waste. This paper aims to review the present status of composting methods and co-composting as applied to different organic and industrial wastes and to identify the future research areas to assess the suitability of composting methods for organic substrate degradation.
