ADSORPTIVE REMOVAL OF ANIONIC DYE FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION BY BAUHENIA RACEMOSA SEED POD CARBON

S. UMADEVI AND N. RENUGADEVI

Abstract

The present work aims to investigate the removal of anionic dye Acid blue 110 (AB110) from aqueous solutions using ripened Bauhinia racemosa seed pod carbon (BRSPC) by adsorption process. The effect of dye concentration, contact time, adsorbent dose, pH and temperature on the removal of AB110 dye was carried out in batch mode adsorption studies. Maximum adsorption (%) was observed at a pH of 2 and with increase of pH dye uptake decreased. The adsorption of AB 110 dye increased with increasing contact time and reached equilibrium after 2 hours. Isothermal studies were analysed by Langmuir and Freundlich models. The results revealed that the adsorption data fitted well with both the adsorption isotherms.
