Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Horticulture Instructional Farm of C. P. College of Agricultural, S.D.A.U., Sardarkrushinagar to study the “effect of different varieties of clusterbean [Cyamopsis tetragonaloba (L.) Taub.] and biofertilizers on growth, yield and quality parameters” during summer season of 2014. Twelve treatment combinations consisting of six varieties viz., Pusa Navbahar, RGC 1031, Goma Manjari, Thar Bhadvi, Guar Kranti and Kanchan Bahar with two biofertilizers viz., Rhizobium and PSB were tested and they reported that variety Guar Kranti (v5) requires minimum days taken for germination, 50 percent flowering and first picking while maximum values of plant height at 30 DAS, number of branches at 30, 60 DAS and at last picking was also observed in variety Guar Kranti (v5). Whereas, variety Pusa Navbahar (v1) was found superior by recording maximum number of clusters/plant, pod length, number of seeds/pod, crude protein content and pod yield per plant, per plot & per hectare. Variety Thar Bhadvi (v4) performed better in respect of number of pods per cluster and plant height at 60 DAS & last picking. Application of biofertilizer PSB (b2) @ 25 g per kg of seed —-enhanced the number of branches at 60 DAS & last picking, number of clusters per plant, number of pods per cluster, pod length, number of seeds/pod, available phosphorus in soil after harvesting and pod yield per plant, per plot & per hectare of clusterbean. Significant improvement in plant height at 60 DAS & last picking, crude protein content in green pods as well as available nitrogen in soil after harvesting was observed with the seed application of Rhizobium. Results revealed that significant variation was recorded in growth, yield and quality due to different varieties.
