INFLUENCE OF FOLIAR SUPPLEMENT OF NPK AND B ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF SESAME

G.R. Rajakumar and S.V. Patil

Abstract

There is a seed setting problem in sesame which leads to low productivity. Role of NPK as major nutrients is evident from the reviews. Boron is associated with many physiological processes in plants. Application of B fertilizer has become a standard measure in many B deficient regions. Proper fertilizer doses of nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium and boron have vital effect on the yield. Spraying plants with NPK and B at first flowering and after 10-15 days improves their nutrient uptake, growth and yield. Field experiments on red sandy loam soil were conducted at the Agril. Research Station, Hanumanamatti during 2013 and 2014. Eight treatment combinations included RDF (45:25:25 NPK kg/ha) along with foliar supplement of combination of NPK and B. The sprayings were taken at first flowering and after 15 days as per the treatment. The growth parameter plant height (cm) was recorded at 30 and 60 DAS and at harvest, which indicated that the treatment T4 (RDF+19 All WSF Spray @ 2%+Borosol Spray 0.2%) is significantly superior over all other treatments. The highest seed yield (712.484 and 784.500 kg/ha) is obtained in T4. These results indicate that NPK and B supplement to plant through foliar means will enhance the growth and the yield level in Sesame.
