Abstract

Considering the role of sugar and allelochemicals viz., total phenol, condensed tannin and total gossypol in plant defense against leafhopper, twelve cotton genotypes were investigated at various growth stages (65,80 and 95 Days after sowing (DAS). The leafhopper population were more in LH 2256 followed by LH 2220 at 65 DAS. The sugar and allelochemicals were found highest at 80 DAS thereafter a decrease was observed in all genotypes. PUSA 5760 and CA 105 were contained highest allelochemical and lowest sugar content among the genotypes. Correlation analysis was carried out to know the relationship between the leafhopper incidence and allelochemicals content in plants. The Total phenol, condensed tannin and total gossypol contents at all growth stages (65, 80 and 95 DAS) showed significantly negative relationship with the incidence of leafhopper.
