FATTY ACID COMPOSITION OF COMMERCIALLY IMPORTANT BRACKISHWATER AQUACULTURE FISH SPECIESSmit R. Lende, S.I. Yusufzai1, A.K. Jha, P.J. Mahida, R.A. Khileri and K.G. BaraiyaAbstract The proximate composition and fatty acid compositions of seven commercially important brakishwater fish species viz., Rachycentron canadum, Lates calcarifer, Diplods sargus, Mugil cephalus, Abudefduf Septemfasciatus, Alectis indica, Epinephalus coioides were investigated. The fatty acid compositions of brakishwater fish species were found to be 34.32-67.52 saturated (SFA), 32.48-65.68% unsaturated (UFA), 9.18-65.68% monounsaturated (MUFAs) and 10.99-53.06 % polyunsaturated acids (PUFAs). The results of proximate composition of all species in the range of moisture 63.5-78.82%, Ash 0.57-1.67%, crude protein 13.53-25.60%, ether extract 1.45-15.11% and total carbohydrate 0.21-1.59%.
