SMART URBAN GROWTH MODEL FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MASHHAD METROPOLIS, IRAN

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the principles of smart growth in the city of Mashhad, and in this regard, smart growth criteria with quantitative-qualitative content analysis to extract and analyz e been studied which measures the amount of municipal utilities, impurity density residential, buildings constructed on damaged buildings, permits issued for multi-floor buildings, the amount of agricultural land, pasture land, residents along the highway and the number of trips a day were evaluated. Finally TOPSIS technique to evaluate smart growth in Mashhad between 2006 and 2011 were reviewed. GIS software tools and techniques used in this study to assess the extent of smart growth is topsis. Research results indicate that smart growth criteria have been declining in recent years, as the TOPSIS technique shows the growth of the city from 2006 was smarter than 2011 and if we do not pay special attention to the principles of smart growth the proper development of cities is threatened.
