SEASONAL INCIDENCE AND ABUNDANCE OF INSECT PESTS OF FRENCH BEAN (PHASELOUS VULGARIS LINN.) IN CAUVERY COMMAND AREA, KARNATAKA, INDIA

Abstract

The investigations on Seasonal incidence and abundance of different insect pests of French bean was undertaken during Kharif and Rabi (2014-15). As many as thirty nine species of insect pests belongs to five Orders and twenty one families of class insecta have been recorded on French bean. Of these, Hemipterans (16) and Coleopterans (13) recorded the highest number of species followed by Lepidoptera (06), Diptera (03) and Orthoptera (01). Of which, Bean leaf webworm, Omiodes indicata and Pod borer, Maruca vitrata caused serious damage. The peak incidence of O. indicata and M. vitrata was observed during first week of October (40th MSW).
