DIALLEL ANALYSIS FOR SEED YIELD AND ITS COMPONENTS TRAITS IN INDIAN BEAN (DOLICHOUS LABLAB L.)

S.T. Gawali, C.U. Patil and Vikas Khandelwal

Abstract

The estimates of general combining ability (GCA) variance were much higher than specific combining ability (SCA) variance except days to 50% flowering, number of pod per plants and seed yield per plants; this indicated the importance of both additive as well as non-additive gene effects are involved in the expression of these characters. Similarly, the Genotypes NW-4, NW- 13, NW- 20, NW- 52, and NW- 47 were identified as good general combiner for seed yield per plant. Moreover, the cross combination viz., NW-5 X NW-52, NW- 47 X NW-52, NW-47 X NW- 4, and NW- 20 X NW- 47 were the most promising crosses for improvement of seed yield. However, the segregating generations by adopting progeny selection method for exploiting additive genetic variance would lead to rapid improvement under this crop.
