SAI SRIDHAR HOGIRALA, N.CHANDRASEKARAN

Abstract

E-waste recycling in India is fast emerging into a profitable business opportunity. Presence of companies like Attero, AER Worldwide and SIMS suggest the size of market opportunities in India. While WEEE directive and BASEL convention provide a foundational framework for e-waste management and handling rules in India, the implementation is constrained by consumer behavior, formal-informal divide and enforcement of rules. This paper is an attempt to develop a literary portrait of e-waste recycling sector and reflects on economic and policy asymmetry in India.
