ESTIMATION OF GENETIC DIVERSITY IN KHARIF ONION (ALLIUM CEPA L.)B.S.K. Nikhil and A.S. JadhavAbstract The experiment was conducted at scheme for Research on Onion storage, MPKV, Rahuri during Kharif season of 2013 to estimate the genetic diversity of onion. Twenty two genotypes of onion were evaluated for 9 characters in a randomized block design to study the genetic divergence. D2 statistic indicated that the genotypes studied were genetically diverse. The genotypes under study were grouped into five clusters. Cluster I contained 12 genotypes followed by cluster II (5 genotypes). Cluster III and V contained 2 genotypes each. The cluster IV was monogenotypic. In overall, D2 analysis suggested that in Kharif onion Phule Samarth, Sel 10, Sel 18, CSKO 1148, CSKO 1175 and B 780 were the most diverse. These genotypes could be utilized as parents in breeding programme to enhance the productivity of onion.
