STUDY ON PHYTOCHEMICAL COMPONENTS PRESENT IN THE HERBAL CONTRACEPTIVES CONSUMED BY THE ETHNIC FEMALES IN JHARKHAND

Abstract

This study was aimed to analyse the chemical components in the collected plant parts of tribal area of western part of Jharkhand which are responsible for contraception. Different collected plant parts are dried, fine grounded and tested in the Laboratory to find the innate phyto chemicals. Most of the plant parts contain –Alkaloids, Glycoside, Phenols, Flavonoids, Sugars, Saponins, Tanins, and Steroids. Presence of these phytochemicals indicates that the collected plant parts bear medically proved contraceptive values. This paper essentially deals with indigenous knowledge relating bio-resources. Every child is important and as a mother one does have any right to ignore, torture, or kill them just because of poverty and unwanted child in family mainly in villages of tribal areas. Our aim should be to control over population in a cost effective way, prevent unwanted pregnancy and a healthy life for both mother and child. So we choose herbal contraceptive which serve as good alternative to the modern costly contraceptive pills having side effects and by analyzing phytochemicals in them. The results show that collected plant parts bear contraceptive values.
