Abstract

Twenty Four genotypes of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) were evaluated during Rabi 2011-12 at the Research Farm Division of Vegetable Science SKUAST-Kashmir to study the genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance in radish. The analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among genotypes for almost all the traits except total soluble solids. Both genotypic as well as phenotypic coefficients of variation were high for number of leaves, leaf weight, total plant weight, root yield/plant, acidity, and ascorbic acid. Heritability in broad sense was high for root weight, total dry matter of roots, leaf weight, root diameter, vitamin C, shoot to root ratio, total soluble solids, leaf length, root length and leaf number. Genetic advance in per cent of mean was maximum for leaf weight followed by root weight. Lowest genetic advance in percent of mean was observed for total soluble solids.
