PERFORMANCE OF WATER USER ASSOCIATIONS IN WHEAT ZONE OF MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA

Abstract

This study is aimed to assess the performance assessment of water user associations (WUAs) taken over canal water management in irrigation command area of Bijori WUA in Jabalpur district, Govindgarh WUA inRewa district and Bauchhar WUA in Narsinghpur district. For this purpose, the indicators of Physical, Bio-economical and Social organizational indicator were used. The water delivery in tail-end supply ratio is 0.67, area uniformity ratio is 0.79 and delivery timeliness ratio is 1 in Govindgarh WUA which was found satisfactory. Fee collection performance, personnel cost ratio and manpower number ratio in Govindgarh WUA were also satisfactory. Sustainability of the irrigated area is 0.88 in Bijori WUA. The water productivity of wheat crop in Bijori, Govindgarh and Bauchhar is ranging from 0.25 to 1.7 kg/m3 in head reach, 0.24 to 1.5 kg/m3 in middle reach and 0.26 to 2.39 kg/m3 in tail reach respectively.
