Abstract

Since Iran is located in one of the most arid regions in the world, water shortage is considered to be one of the major obstacles to the agriculture development in the country. Thus, the intensity of drought’s negative impacts should be reduced as much as possible by taking appropriate management measures. In this regard, the main purpose of this study is to explore the management strategies to the reduction of drought effects on the agriculture sector. The survey would include all the agricultural extension Experts in Kermanshah Township (N=168), where due to the limited size of the community, they were studied by census sampling method. The main research instrument was a questionnaire, with the validity being confirmed by the expert panel and reliability by calculating Cronbach’s alpha coefficient (á> 0.70). To analyze the data, SPSS software was used. According to the results, the management strategies such as “desalination”, “use of cloud seeding technology” and “use of cultivation techniques to reducing the water evaporation” had a higher priority than the rest of management strategies for the mitigation of drought effects on agriculture from the perspective of agricultural extension Experts in Kermanshah Township. Findings of this study could have applied recommendations for the policy makers and managers of agriculture sector in order to lessen the effects of drought.
