Shabir A. Dar, Saly N. Thomas and S.K. Chakraborty

Abstract

Based on the level of technology adopted and species targeted, three sub sectors were identified within the gillnet sector viz., non motorised, outboard motorised (OBM) and Inboard motorised (IBM) sectors. The technical and economic efficiency of operation of these three sectors were analyzed. The technical efficiency with reference to fishing effort and productivity indicated that there is direct relationship in terms of fishing effort with the level of technology but no such direct relationship was observed in terms of productivity.
