MOLECULAR DISTINCTION AMONG VARIETIES OF GLADIOLUS USING RAPD PROFILESP.R. Jadhav, S.N. Hasabnis, R.M. Naik and S.M. KatwateAbstract The genetic relatedness and diversity of five cultivars of Gladiolus grandiflorus L. were studied using RAPD analysis. Total 56 arbitrary RAPD primers were used for further PCR, diversity analysis and fingerprinting. A total of 474 RAPD sites were detected with a mean of 8.07 fragments amplified for each primer. A total of 331 polymorphic DNA fragments were detected among all the 474 amplified fragments, which accounted for a high level of 69.83% of all and could be used for identification of different cultivars. The result revealed that the germplasm resource of Gladiolus cultivar had a narrow genetic base at molecular level.
