INFLUENCE OF STORED GRAIN ECOSYSTEM ON STORABILITY OF PADDY

Abstract

Worldwide production of rice has been increased to 738,187642 MT worth 185,579591 Thousand USD in the year 2012. Food and Agriculture Organization of U.N. predicts that about 1.3 billion tons of food are globally wasted or lost per year. India is a second largest producer of paddy in the World after China. India produced 105.30 million ton of rice in a year. The bags used for study were viz. Jute bag, HDPE Woven lined bag, HDPE Woven unlined bag, Poly Propylene (PP) bag and Super grain bag. The storage environment has prominent effect on insect population in the paddy grains. The hermetic sealed grain shown least effect of storage environment on the insect population. Among the treatments both the grains showed superior quality in super grain bag for the period of 12 months of storage.
