Abstract

The present experiments were conducted to understand the efficacy of different novel insecticides against major insect pests of tomato crop.during Rabi season, 2013-14. Three major insects were recorded at different growth stages of tomato crop viz. tomato fruit, Helicoverpa armigera(Hubner), whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) and leaf hopper, Amrasca devastans (Ishida) were found infesting tomato crop. The efficacy of novel insecticides, i.e. imidacloprid, fipronil, profenofos, indoxacarb, novaluron and spinosad were tested in which imidacloprid and fipronil found most effective than other insecticidal treatments in controlling whitefly and leaf hopper. The treatment spinosad was found least effective to control whitefly and leaf hopper. The treatment spinosad found to be most effective against tomato fruit borer and gives highest yield of marketable. Among the treatments imidacloprid was least effective against tomato fruit borer.
