Abstract

An investigation was carried out on land capability classification and crop suitability assessment-. Results indicate that all five soil series viz. Gola (P1), Bhatagon (P2), Khambe (P3), Balrampur (P4) and Nohri (P5) series showed highly suitable (S1) for maize crop. Gola (P1) and Khamber (P3) series are highly suitable (S1), whereas, Bhatagon (P2), Balrampur (P4) and Nohri (P5) series moderately suitable (S2) for jute cultivation. Khambe (P3), Balrampur (P4) and Nohri (P5) series are highly suitable (S1) and Gola (P1), Bhatagon (P2) are moderately suitable for paddy cultivation. Gola (P1) series are highly suitable (S1) and Nohri (P5) series moderately suitable (S2) and Bhatagon (P2), Khambe (P3), Balrampur (P4) series are marginal suitable for pineapple and vegetable cultivation. The soil site characteristics of soil units were matched with criteria for land capability classification. The pedons were grouped under the capability subclass IIIew (P-1 and P-2), IIIws (P-3 and P-4) and IIIsw (P-5) and P-1, P-2, P-3, P-4 and P-5 were grouped under land irrigability sub-classes as A, B, C, C and C respectively. Result findings are in digital maps which are helpful for land use planning towards sustainability for different agricultural practices.
