ANALYSIS OF FLUORIDE LEVEL IN GROUND AND SURFACE WATER AND SURVEY OF DENTAL FLUOROSIS

Jagmohan Oberoi and K.C. Gupta

Abstract

Fluorine is the most electronegative of all the elements. It exists in the form of fluoride in various minerals. In the present study 10 samples were collected and analysed for physico- chemical parameters water like pH, sulphate ions, chloride ions, total hardness, nitrite ions, methyl orange alkalinity, fluoride ion, iron, copper and cadmium. The analysis showed a minimum fluoride level of 0.18 mg/L and maximum level of 0.80 mg/L in Hand pump water of different villages of Ambala district. The analysis showed minimum fluoride concentration of 0.55 mg/L and maximum of 1.80 mg/L in tube well water for year 2009. Maximum fluoride concentration of 1.80 mg/L was shown by tubewell water of Dulyani village. Dental fluorosis survey was carried out among 5 schools for age group of 5-10 in nearby area of Dulyani village in Ambala district.
